Help trio win a $10,000 trip from Outside Magazine

Juneau resident Christina Vasquez is asking for votes to secure $10,000. She is a top five finalist in an online video contest for Outside Magazine.

Voting is open from Tuesday, June 18 through Friday, June 28 and voters should visit each day. If Vasquez wins, she will be awarded funds for her dream adventure with two friends: biking, hiking and paddling from Prudhoe Bay back to Juneau.

Vasquez would be accompanied by Jill Weitz and AJ Peters, who also live in Juneau. The women would start at Prudhoe Bay, on the Arctic Ocean, and weave their way south through Gates of the Arctic, Denali and Wrangell St. Elias national parks. Their adventure trip would end by sea, kayaking from Haines to Juneau.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Vasquez said. “I talked to the executive editor of Outside Magazine. We’re hoping Alaska will get behind us on this.”

This is only the second year Outside Magazine has offered this adventure grant. Applicants were asked to submit a two-minute video, a 500-word essay and a photo detailing their trip and its viability. In 2012, the winner proposed kayaking 4,000 miles from the tip of Minnesota to Key West.
