Fine tune fly fishing skills with Michele Elfers this year as part of Alaska Fly Fishing Goods’ Women’s Hosted Fishing clinics.
There will be two events this summer for women to take advantage of — the first will be on Sunday, July 28 and the second will happen on Sunday, Aug. 25. In a release from the local fly shop, the courses are popular because of the small group size, but this means they also fill up quickly.
The first event will tackle “Beach Fishing for Pinks” at Echo Cove. Attendees will learn beach fishing techniques, how to time the tides, prime flies and more.
The second event will be focussed on fishing North Douglas for coho salmon in August. Women will learn how to cast for coho off the beach along that portion of Gastineau Channel. They’ll also get tips on fly selection, hitting the tide correctly, fishing techniques and more.
Cost for each of the courses is $20 and includes flies and a leader. Group size is limited to five. Some fly fishing experience is necessary. Bring your own waders, rod and reel.
Advance sign up is required. To do so, stop by Alaska Fly Fishing Goods or call 586-1550.
