61st annual ski sale tomorrow

Juneau skiers, snowboarders and winter-lovers will sort through hats, snowboards, coats and other gear at the 61st annual Juneau Ski Sale this Saturday, Nov. 2.

Those wishing to sell unneeded gear can bring it to Centennial Hall between 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. tonight, and between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the Juneau Ski Club and the Juneau Ski Patrol.

Each item is sold by consignment, with 20 percent of the sale going toward those two groups. Items should be clean, with a value of at least $5, and safe.

“When it comes to skis, bindings, snowboards and outdoor equipment — that type of gear — we want to see stuff that’s been made in the last ten years,” said Juneau Ski Club President Michael Satre. “Things become unsafe as they get older.”

Volunteers will help with pricing.

Items not sold should be picked up between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., organizers charge a $5 fee.

It is cash or check only; no credit cards will be accepted. There is a $2 admission fee, which will contribute toward the cost of using
Centennial Hall, Satre said. Children age 12 and younger enter free of charge.

Eaglecrest Ski Area representatives will be at the event taking pictures for season passes and booking ski lessons, he said. There will also be booths with local stores selling more outdoor gear, and representatives from the weather service. The door prize is an Eaglecrest season pass.

“This really is an outdoor event. It’s not just a ski sale. It’s anything and everything to deal with the outdoors in Juneau,” he said. “Just know that there will be a line. But be patient, have fun and catch up with friends and neighbors that enjoy the same winter activities ... It’s always a great, well-attended event.”

The sale will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Centennial Hall.
