ORCA looking for volunteers

The Outdoor Recreation and Community Access (ORCA) Program is looking for volunteers this winter to teach people experiencing disabilities how to ski and snowboard.

To help spread the word about their organization and help educate folks on how to get involved, ORCA is hosting a volunteer information night today from 4-6 p.m. at Coppa, an ice cream and coffee shop across from the Federal Building downtown.

ORCA is looking for people with alpine ski, snowboard or “Nordic proficiency.” ORCA will provide training in December and January. Jan. 4 is the opening of the program season.

“Come help all ages and abilities to experience the excitement of mountain snowsports,” a press release stated.

Volunters can also earn free Eaglecrest Ski Area lift tickets and lessons.

Call ORCA at 586-0104 or email mahleman@sailinc.org with questions.

ORCA is a SAIL (Southeast Alaska Independent Living) program.

Coppa is located at 917 Glacier Highway.
