GIRDWOOD — Alyeska Resort’s ski season officially began on Thursday, Nov. 28 and chairlifts are scheduled to be running from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
According to a release from the resort earlier this week, full base area services will be open, including the Mountain Learning Center ski and snowboard school, rental shop and slopeside dining at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill.
New at Alyeska Resort for the this season is the Glacier Bowl Express, a high‐speed detachable quad chairlift that has replaced the old Chair 6, which was installed in 1988. The new chairlift was manufactured and installed by Doppelmayr USA Inc. at an estimated cost of $6 million. Servicing high volumes of skiers and riders, Glacier Bowl Express will provide primary lift access to the upper mountain trails at Alyeska Resort. Popular skiing and snowboarding runs accessed by Chair 6 include Christmas Chute and the North Face, Silvertip, Trapline, Mighty Mite and High Traverse.
