Eaglecrest Ski Area handily defeated Mount Bohemia, Michigan in the “Final Four” of Powder Magazine’s Ski Town Throwdown on Monday and Tuesday. The final score was 4,569 to 1,811.
Next week, the ski area will move on to the final showdown against either Stevens Pass, Washington, or Crested Butte, Colorado.
“Either one will be a tough competitor,” said sales and marketing director Jeffra Clough. “Crested Butte certainly has had the community behind them.”
Inspired by Powder Magazine dubbing them “the Cinderella Story,” of the Throwdown, Eaglecrest has fully embraced the nickname, recently inviting Cinderella and fictitious bobsled captain “Timmy” (a Powder Magazine invention) for a sled ride around Eaglecrest.
“They came up with it. We decided we were going to run with it,” said Marketing and Event Coordinator Sarah Cannard. “We felt like being ‘the Cinderella story’ was definitely a compliment.”
“We were the unknown … I know we surprised (Powder Magazine),” Clough said.
Over the course of the contest so far, Eaglecrest has about doubled the number of fans it has on Facebook. The contest has also increased interaction on social media sites Twitter and Instagram.
“It’s been great for getting people to interact with us and communicate with us,” Clough said.
Though the final round is exciting, she said, but the ski area’s top priority right now is getting ready for opening day this Saturday.
“Actually winning the finals is going to be a huge challenge,” Clough said. “It will be a lot of work, and we’ll need all our supporters to come out and vote.”
Voting for the final throwdown challenge is next week, Dec. 9-13.
