Community ski race to be held at Eagle Beach

The public is invited to celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 20 with a Nordic Ski Race at Eagle Beach campground, which kicks off at noon.

The race will be both classic and skate technique — it’s up to participants on which they choose. Distances are to be determined.

A post-race party will be held for those wanting to stay afterward; bring a snack to share.

This race replaces the head lamp race originally scheduled for the same day at the Mendenhall Campground trails.

No pre-registration is required. All ages, levels and ski enthusiasts are welcome to participate. Donations accepted to support the 4-H Nordic Devo Team.

Buckwheat Classic registration opens

Registration is now open for the 31st annual Buckwheat Ski Classic. The cross-country ski race will be held on March 25 on the Log Cabin Ski Trails north of Skagway and include 50K, 25K and 10K classic races as well as a 5K kids race.
