JUNEAU — How do you use an outrigger? What is a sit-ski?
Answers to these questions await participants at the 5th annual Learn to Adapt Day on Sunday, Jan. 19. Not only will demonstrations on all adaptive ski and snowboard equipment be available, but participants will also be invited to test these set-ups.
Eaglecrest and the Outdoor Recreation and Community Access (ORCA) program at Southeast Alaska Independent Living will co-present the event. Adaptive instructors will be on hand to provide lessons and answer questions. Lessons will cover detailed instruction, equipment demonstration and the full adaptive experience.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to invite the Juneau community to engage in a very different snow sports experience,” Lindsay Hallvick, Eaglecrest Adaptive Coordinator, said. “Participants come away with a whole new appreciation for adaptive sports.”
Learn to Adapt Day is part of Eaglecrest’s series of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month events and promotions. January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, a national grassroots program aimed at introducing winter sports to first-time participants.
