JUNEAU — Learning to ski should never be intimidating — at least that’s how the folks at Eaglecrest Ski Area feel.
For the 33rd year in a row, Learn to Ski Weekend at Eaglecrest is a free opportunity for first-time skiers in the 3rd and 4th grades to learn all about having fun in the snow, according to a release this week from the local ski area. On Jan. 25 and 26, 45 chosen winners will participate in this all-encompassing weekend, complete with lessons, rentals, lift tickets, lunch and transportation. All weekend event costs are sponsored by Mendenhall Auto Subaru.
Winners will be chosen through a random drawing and may enter by submitting a Learn to Ski Weekend Application. Applications are available at SkiJuneau.com or at any Juneau Public Elementary School and should be submitted by 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.
Completed forms should be returned to Julie Jackson, Snowsports School and Community Outreach Coordinator, via fax: 907-586-4584, e-mail: Julie.Jackson@SkiJuneau.com or in person at the Eaglecrest Snowsports School window.
“This weekend is so rewarding, both for these students and our instructors, who are able to interact with and positively impact a unique set of students we might not otherwise ever see at Eaglecrest,” Jackson said.
Winners will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Learn to Ski Weekend is part of Eaglecrest’s series of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month event and promotions. January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, a national grassroots program aimed at introducing winter sports to first-time participants.
