Historic preservation grants now available

The Office of History and Archaeology is accepting applications for grants to assist with rehabilitating, restoring, stabilizing or planning for preserving historic buildings and structures.

Individuals, businesses, corporations, local governments and state agencies owning properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places can apply. Additional eligibility guidelines are contained in the grant announcement and application materials posted at http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/grants/dev.htm.

The grants are reimbursable and matching, dollar for dollar. The total amount of funding available through this program is $200,000. A minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $25,000 can be requested, per project, for development grants. A minimum of $3,500 and a maximum of $10,000 can be requested, per project, for predevelopment grants.

Applications must be postmarked, emailed or delivered by 4:30 p.m. on June 30. Buckwheat Classic registration opens

Registration is now open for the 31st annual Buckwheat Ski Classic. The cross-country ski race will be held on March 25 on the Log Cabin Ski Trails north of Skagway and include 50K, 25K and 10K classic races as well as a 5K kids race.
