Alaska Communications is currently experiencing an outage affecting wireless and long-distance customers in Hoonah. The outage affects some wireless voice and data as well all long-distance service to Hoonah. However, customers are still able to make local calls and wireless service is working in some parts of town.
Technicians were reported to be en route to the site on Monday afternoon via the state ferry system and scheduled to arrive that evening.
The outage happened at approximately 10:37 p.m. Saturday. ACS reports extreme winds and inclement weather prevented technicians from being able to travel to the site and restore service immediately.
“We have been doing everything we can to restore service while, at the same time, keeping our technicians safe. We are committed to providing the highest possible level of service to our Hoonah customers,” said ACS Southeast General Manager Bob Varness.
