Doug Luna, the former chief justice of the Tlingit and Haida tribes, died Wednesday at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, after a brief hospitalization for heart problems. He was 67.
Along with serving on the Tlingit and Haida high court, Luna served as director of pipeline compliance for the trans-Alaska pipeline. He also worked for Boeing Co. as deputy corporate administrator for its small and minority business program. While there, he wrote the model subcontracting plan for small and minority federal contractors. While at Boeing, the company increased its contracts to minority business from $7 million annually to $155 million.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday in Seattle.
