FAIRBANKS — A 14-year-old Alaska boy is recovering from injuries suffered in a traffic accident that killed his father.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Chance Hughes was airlifted to Providence Hospital in Anchorage following the fatal accident Saturday in Fairbanks.
The teen’s mother, Jennifer Hughes, said he is suffering from minor internal injuries, a head injury and broken ribs.
The teenager and his father, 40-year-old Todd Hughes, who was supervisor of the Alaska State Department of Transportation’s Materials Lab, were driving to a robotics tournament at the University of Alaska Fairbanks when the two-vehicle accident occurred.
The driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash was treated at a hospital and released.
