Native languages carry to next generation

Ashley Johnston, left, Marcus Worthington, center, and Samantha Skan were among the first-graders playing the game during a bilingual-bicultural class at Harborview Elementary School in December 2000. Currently, there are more than 500 students in the Juneau School District who are receiving Tlingit language instruction. There also are language classes offered in Sitka, Ketchikan, Hoonah, Klukwan, Yakutat and Kake.
