Juneau-Douglas seniors Karli Brakes, Taylor Larson and Sarah Tarver all competed in Saturday’s inaugural Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches senior All-Star game at Colony High School, with Larson and Brakes’ Gold team picking up the 64-50 win over Tarver’s Blue team.
Larson was named MVP after going off for 17 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field, including a 3-pointer, and nine rebounds. The next closest scorer had nine points. Brakes added five points before spraining an ankle, and Tarver scored four for the Gold team.
JDHS coach Lesslie Knight, the 4A girls’ Coach of the Year this season, led the Gold team from the sideline.
The game featured 24 of the state’s top senior girls from all classifications, with several other players representing Southeast, including Craig’s Alex Owen and Elizabeth Isaacs, Yakutat’s Ellen Esbenshade, Haines’ Abby Jones, and Skagway’s Jesse Ellis and Kaylie O’Daniel.
