Locals finish strong in Boston

Local marathoners Leeann I. Thomas, Hilary S. Young, Scott E. Watts and Ketchikan’s David Anderes finished the Boston Marathon on Monday after starting amidst a crowd of about 27,000 runners, including 36 from Alaska.

Watts, from Auke Bay, finished with the 10th best time of any Alaska male participant, placing 1,736th overall with a time of 3:03:01. Anderes finished in 7,867th place on the men’s side with a time of 3:40:11.

Young’s time 3:14:38 was good enough for 377th place overall and was the top women’s score from the state. Thomas, who said this would be her first and last Boston Marathon, finished 4,997th overall with a time of 3:54:24.
