Southern California shut out Juneau 4-0 Wednesday, but both teams had already earned semifinal berths in the Majors division softball Western Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, Calif.
Southern Cal is the No. 1 seed out of Pool B, while Juneau is the No. 2 and will face Pool A No. 1 Northern California today at 3 p.m. AKDT. Southern Cal faces Washington at 6 p.m. AKDT.
The winners advance to Saturday’s championship game at 5 p.m. AKDT, and the Western Region champion moves on to the Little League Softball World Series.
The teams were knotted at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, when Southern California plated its first run. Southern Cal then scored three more in the fifth to set the final score at 4-0.
Juneau managed just three hits as Southern Cal starter Alexis Cecere struck out nine hitters and walked just one to pick up the win. Cecere threw 77 pitches, 54 for strikes, and has given up just one run and five hits in two games with 13 strike outs.
Jordan Harris, Quincy Bates and Alondra Echiverri got one hit apiece for Juneau.

Softball Juniors down 0-2
Juneau dropped to 0-2 in its best-of-5 state softball series against Nunaka Valley on Wednesday with a 10-1 loss. Game 3 is at 7 p.m. today.
Majors baseball game canceled
The Majors division Alaska State Little League Baseball Tournament opener Wednesday between Juneau’s Gastineau Channel and Anchorage’s Abott-O-Rabbit was rained out at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.
The teams will try again today at 10 a.m. and then at 6 p.m., weather permitting.
