Nunaka Valley qualifies for Junior League Softball World Series

ANCHORAGE — Anchorage’s Nunaka Valley All-Stars have advanced to the Junior League Softball World Series just two years after qualifying for the Little League World Series.

The Junior League is the next level of competition for the Nunaka Valley softball team, now featuring a roster of 13- and 14-year-olds.

KTUU reported the team advanced Tuesday by defeating Milton Freewater Little League, of Oregon, 5-3 in the Western Region Tournament in Arizona.

Nunaka Valley swept Juneau’s Gastineau Channel Little League All-Stars in three games to advance to the Western Region Tournament.

The World Series starts Sunday in Kirkland, Wash., and features teams from the United States, Canada, Asia and Latin America.
