SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle University senior, and 2007 Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears graduate, Talisa Rhea has been named Independent Player of the Week Monday by College Sports Madness, the fourth straight week a Seattle University player has been recognized by the website.

Rhea, named the Independent Player of the Week for the second straight time, started the week by leading the Redhawks with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including three made three-pointers, in Seattle U’s 80-62 victory over Santa Clara last Tuesday at the Connolly Center. Rhea helped extend the Redhawks’ winning streak to four games with seven assists in the game.

Saturday afternoon, Rhea finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and six assists in the team’s 71-70 loss to Saint Mary’s. She is now tied for the team lead in scoring with 13.1 points per game, plus she leads the way in assists with 5.6 per game and is third on the team in rebounding with 4.9 boards per contest. Rhea is currently among the top 20 players in assists in Division I.

“Talisa is one of our team’s most consistent performers and is at her best when her best is needed. She is clutch down the stretch,” Seattle U head women’s basketball coach Joan Bonvicini said.

Rhea and the Seattle U women’s basketball team heads to Little Rock, Ark., to face the UALR Trojans today at 5 p.m. Pacific time. After Christmas, the Redhawks will host the Washington Dental Service Holiday Hoops Tournament Dec. 29-30 at KeyArena in Seattle.
