Be my guest

Posted: January 5, 2012 - 12:11am

Well hello!

So glad to see you!

Wipe your feet and come on in.

Sit a spell.

Got any good gossip? How about a tip or an insight? What have you heard? What is the latest?

I will treat you to a coffee if that is what it takes. Maybe with a prepackaged scone, I can do that, my culinary skills are that advanced.

Don’t mind the dog, he only bites fans of Kobe Bryant. That is his only talent. He doesn’t open the refrigerator door and bring me a beer like those television commercial dogs, nor does he carry around a new Mac book fancy computer thingy on cattle drives like other commercial dogs. Nope, he just bites.

Allergic to the color of my alma mater? Or a full sized Vikings mascot? I can put those in the back room while you visit.

Anyway, I welcome you to send in your bits and pieces of written thoughts, helpful insights, and expertise in whatever sports field you have thoughts, insights or expertise in.

Heck, I will even publish a few.

I recently talked to Barbara Lindh.

Barb was one of the first Juneau high school ski team members, learned to ski on the cemetary hill and by slogging up to “3rd cabin.”

Barb is one of the Eaglecrest Snowsports School instructors and is ready to teach women how to ski. As-a-matter-of-fact she is starting with First tracks on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. at Eaglecrest and on Sunday with Reach The Peak at 1 p.m. Call her, she’s friendly and doesn’t bite.

Today I am acknowledging the challenging field of sports journalism, journalism in general for that matter.

Juneau Empire stringer McLean Cannon you may remember from our pages. He was former Sports Editor Shaun Cox’ right-hand man, and rightly so. I asked Mr. Cannon (story below) if he would share his thoughts on his first term at journalism school and I am sure you will be, as I was, impressed.

Not only do our high school students go away to accomplish great moments in athletic achievement, some go and accomplish the passion to write and pursue talents that often are overlooked.

So here is the cream and sugar for that coffee, a little footstool for the recliner, and some antibiotics for that bite.
