Player Profiles: JDHS Hockey Seniors

Posted: January 20, 2012 - 6:26am

Chris Jacobsen

NO. 13, Forward, 6-foot-1, 190-pounds.

Thoughts on last games: It is hard to believe this is our last home series and the season is nearing an end. I hope the last few weeks will be ones to remember and be great weeks for the team.

Nickname: “CeeeJ”

Years skating: 8

What happened the first time you put on skates: I remember our family went up to Whitehorse to get hockey gear. We went on an outdoor rink. I was pretty shaky but it was fun.

Parents: Darlene and Bob Jacobsen.

Birth Date & Place: April 3, 1994 Juneau AK.

Role model: Nano Jacobsen my brother.

Favorite class: American Government.

Favorite hockey team or player: Vancouver Canucks.

Most memorable moment on the Ice: My first high school game.

Advice to younger teammates: Listen to coach and don’t be late.

Favorite food: Fondue or steak.

Favorite music and artist: Reggae, oldies like Eagles, Phil Collins and Steve Miller Band, and a lot of the music on the ski movies I watch.

Favorite sports movie: Out Cold.

Favorite book: I don’t read a lot of books, probably anything with a movie to go along with it.

Plans after graduation: Move to Colorado, go to college, and snow board.

Hobbies: Long boarding, snow boarding, and surfing.

Personal goals this season: To continue the season without getting injured.

Thanks to: Coaches, Blue Line Club, and my parents.

Coaches comments: After taking his junior year off to snowboard competitively, Christian joined us for his senior year and 3rd season with the team. He’s a natural athlete and leader that always shows a lot of heart and determination on the ice. Off the ice, younger players definitely look up to Christian as a role model. He’s a great example of postive attitude, strong work ethic and individual responsibility. We were lucky to have him be a part of our program this year.

Zach Bicknell

NO. 16, Forward, 6-foot-3, 170-pounds.

Thoughts on last games: Hopefully we will go out with a win, but if not I know it has been a good four years, we will leave it all out on the ice.

Nickname: “Bick”

Years skating: 7

What happened the first time you put on skates: I didn’t go out very well, it was slippery.

Parents: Sara and Spike Bicknell

Birth Date & Place: July 6, 1993 Juneau AK

Role model: My Dad

Favorite class: American Government

Favorite hockey team or player: Boston Bruins

Most memorable moment on the Ice: Winning state with JDIA Midgets.

Advice to younger teammates: Hard work pays off.

Favorite food: Steak.

Favorite music and artist: Tough to limit myself to one, a lot of hip hop.

Favorite sports movie: Slap Shot.

Favorite book: How To Play Hockey For Dummies.

Plans after graduation: Go to college.

Hobbies: Hunting, snow machining, and fishing.

Personal goals this season: Be as positive a person as I can be and a good team leader.

Thanks to: Coaches and my parents for putting up with me.

Coaches Comments: Zach is one of our two senior captains this year, and he’s had a great career with the CrimsonBears. He’s played both forward and defense at times, but really developed into a steady defender with great puck carrying abilities this year. Zach won’t back down from anyone, and he gives us a strong physical presence around our net. He’s also a great leader, setting the tone in the locker room and keeping everyone upbeat and focused, and his influence on the program will likely continue after he’s gone on to college.

Billy Holbrook

NO. 9, Forward, 6-foot-3, 190-pounds.

Thoughts on last games: I just don’t know what to expect after everything isover. It is going to be different. I guess I will find out.

Nickname: “Billy”

Years skating: 8

What happened the first time you put on skates: I used to skate with mysister Heather, and she was always better, so I had to join hockey to get better than her. I had trouble at first and had to work on it a lot.

Parents: Sherry Sanders and Bill Holbrook

Birth Date & Place: March 28, 1994 Juneau, Alaska

Role Model: Matt Boline

Favorite Class: Math

Favorite hockey team or player: Buffalo Sabres, Rich Nash.

Most memorable moment on the Ice: Scoring a goal against Lathrop when we beat them.

Advice to younger team mates: Don’t be late.

Favorite food: Fettuccine Alfredo.

Future plans after graduation: Try to play Juniors and go to college.

Favorite music and artist: Rock, not rap.

Favorite sports movie: Miracle is a pretty good one.

Favorite book: I am not the biggest reader, the play book.

Hobbies: Playing tennis and eating.

Personal goals this season: Be a good team leader and work harder every time on the ice.

Thanks to: My parents for supporting me over the years and Nick Mow for setting a marker for me to achieve.

Coaches Comments: Bill one of the most talented players we’ve had come through the program. He’s one of thosekids that eats, drinks and sleeps hockey, and he stands a really good chance at playing junior and college hockey in the future. Off the ice, Bill was pretty quiet as a freshman but really matured into a great leader his senior year. He ran conditioning sessions in the spring and fall, even while playing tennis competitively, and these really did a lot to bring new players into the mix and to get everyone prepared for the season. On the ice he learned to become responsible defensively while leading the team in scoring for the last two years. He is the only 2 year captain of the hockey team, and might be ready to surpass Nick Mow as the all-time leading scorer in the program.
