TMHS girls fall to NP

The Thunder Mountain Falcons girls’ basketball team dropped their opening game in the Lady T-Bird Classic at East Anchorage High School on Friday.

The Falcons fell 49-42 to the North Pole Patriots.

TMHS’ Jonelle Staveland rocked the rim for a season-high 20 points. Ashley Young added eight points, Cheyenne Ekis six, Shale Kibby four, Shayla Reeves three, and Michaela Demmert one.

North Pole was led by Raegan Smothers’ 23 points, Josie Broderick added 20, Ashlynn Mulcare three, Amanda Styers two, and Sheridan Culver one.

TMHS hit 6-10 at the free throw line, NP went 14-21.

The Patriots led 16-11 after one period and 31-17 at the half. The Falcons trailed 45-29 entering the final stanza before going on a 13-4 run down the stretch.

The Falcons play Bartlett at 2:15 today.

In other action from the tournament Seward beat Bartlett 45-44, Soldotna beat Ketchikan 56-46, and East beat Grace Christian 62-39.
