Town Downhill is well attended, well skied and well weathered

A light falling snow and crisp temperatures were perfect for Saturdays Valley Medical Town Downhill at Eaglecrest.


“There were great ski conditions and course held up well,” race organizer Dan Ord said. “We had 60 race entries.”

According to Ord, Peter Peel had fastest run of the day with a 48.65 and hit the fastest speed on the radar gun with 54 mph.

“He also had a huge crash in the first run,” Ord said. “The one and only of the day.”

The Top Five Male athlete’s overall, 1st to 5th with there combined time: 1. Jeffry Johns 139:35; 2. Dan Ord 140:87; 3.Don Miners 143.58; 4. Dan Harrah 143. 72; 5. Ed Squibb 146.16.

The Top Five Female athlete’s overall, 1st to 5th: 1. Lucy Squibb 149.90; 2. Stacie Bentley 151.53; 3. Ali Hiley 155. 76; 4. Kayla Harmon 156.86; 5. Linda Thompson 207.06.

Age Bracket Winners, Snowboard Men: 13 to 16 Caleb Brown; 17 and up Blain Garrett.

Ski Women: 10 to 12 Jessie Gregg; 13 to 16 Ali Hiley; 17 and up Lucy Squibb.

Ski Men: 10 to 12 Ronan Davis; 13 to 16 Cody Weldon; 17 and up Jeffery Johns.

Ord commented that Eagle Crest Ski Area and the Juneau ski club feel the Town Downhill was a great success and are looking forward to doing it again next year.
