Haines's Ben Egolf (54) is fouled on a rebound by Kake's Tracy Jackson (20) during the Haines 74-59 "B" bracket win on Sunday.

Haines opened their Gold Medal “B” bracket tournament with a resounding 74-59 win over Kake on Sunday at the Juneau-Douglas High School gymnasium behind the inside play of Tyler Swinton and Ben Egolf.

Swinton tallied 21 points and Egolf 18 as the taller Haines team used a 24-13 rebound advantage to open a 42-26 halftime advantage.

Kake tried to make a run in the second half, closing to within 10 points, 57-47 with half the stanza remaining but Swinton scored the next four points at the free throw line to stop the momentum. Haines hit 24-37 at the charity stripe for the game, Kake hit just 5-10.

Tracy Jackson scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half to keep Kake within striking distance, including an eight-point deficit at 63-55 with 5:33 remaining but the foul disparity took its toll. James Hart hit two free throws and Egolf four in a row to take control of the contest.
