The boys from the Chilkat Inlet continued their sweep through the 2012 Gold Medal Basketball Tournament’s “B” bracket, with a convincing 83-58 quarterfinal win over Angoon on Monday. Tyler Healy scored all of his 19 points in the first half as Haines took a commanding 51-34 buffer into the Gatorade break. Haines opened the second half with an 18-7 run and were never challenged in the stanza. Tyler Swinton scored a game-high 21 points for Haines, Harry Reitze added 10, Ben Egolf eight, Ryan Olson seven, Orion Falvey six, Norman Zura five, Michael Ganey three, James Hart and Chris Dixon two apiece. Angoon’s Guy Hunter scored a team-high 12 points, William Silva added 10, Curtis Lang eight, Levi Johnson Sr. and Bailey Johnson seven apiece, John Croasmum Jr. six, Jason Frank and Stephen Johnson four apiece. Angoon hit 9-15 at the charity stripe, Haines went 14-18. Haines moves on to play in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Hydaburg. Hydaburg defeated Metlakatla 90-81in a late Monday game. Vinnie Edenshaw scored 32 points and Devin Edenshaw 20 for Hydaburg. Jase Scudero led Metlakatla with 22. Angoon drops into the losers bracket for an elimination game at 7:30 Wednesday. Angoon will face the winner of today’s 7:30 p.m. elimination game between Hoonah and Yakutat. Metlakatla will play at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of today’s 3:30 elimination game between Klukwan and Kake.
