A few hundred brave souls braved the weather at Eaglecrest on Saturday for the 2012 Slush Cup... not to enter but to enjoy the sights as 49 slightly more crazy ski and snowboarders attempted to ski and ride over the top of a 13-foot wide, 110-foot long, and four-foot deep pond filled with freezing slushy water.
The theme of the event was “Retro.” Contestants were judge on Style, Costume, and distance. Prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall winners as well as some super secret specialty categories.
“This is our way of saying thank you to the community for their support this season,” Eaglecrest Director of Sales/Marketing & Snowsports School Jeffra Clough said. “And a great way to let anyone who wants to have a final bit of fun. I think everyone watching had a great time.”
Fans stated comments such as, “If she can do Slush Cup than she’s a keeper” as an attractive lass skied effortlessly through the slushy pond; and “He flopped back and front” as a lad on ski snow-skates ping ponged off the water; and “Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle” as a snowboarder’s speed slowly began to deteriorate and he tried to provide gyrating hip momentum; and “This is Sparta!” as a skier showed that the military power of Greece extended through the slushy trough on lower Hillary; and “The ten-year-old is going down” as the first of a youth push cruised toward watery doom; and one of the first skiers drew nothing but extended applause as he passed through the trough and did a flip out the back side.
