13th Annual Southeast Showdown tonight

"Mean Machine" defending title

Al “Mean Machine” Valentine is going to unleash 50-some-odd years of fury to try and retain his Southeast Showdown heavyweight belt against Ketchikan’s Tyson Duckworth in tonight’s Southeast Showdown Championships at Roughhouse Friday Boxing in Marlintini’s Lounge.

“I believe its going to be a rematch from last year between Al “Mean Machine” Valentine from Juneau and Tyson “Kain” Duckworth from Ketchikan,” promoter Bob Haag has predicted.

Tyson Duckworth has won the light and middleweight belts. If he beats Valentine, Duckworth will be the only person in Roughhouse history to have won all 3 belts, Lightweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight.

It was that same quest last year from Duckworth that brought Valentine out of retirement and shattered the dreams of the Ketchikan fighter while solidifying the stature of the talented Juneau fighter Valentine.

Valentine has fought his way from the mean alley’s and woods of Petersburg, through Juneau and Anchorage amateur status, to professional ring time at Atlantic City and beyond. He has retired and unretired just enought to stifle the dreams of braggerts and showboats.

And that bout may not be the best one of the night.

This “Showdown” will have boxers from Sitka, Angoon, Hoonah, Klawock, Juneau, Kake, Ketchikan and Prince of Wales. Boxers will fight for championship belts in three weight divisions. Heavyweight, Middleweight and Lightweight. Once the belts are handed out in those divisions, the 1st Ever Lightweight MMA Southeast Showdown Championship will happen between two of the best lightweights in Alaska, Craig Reishus and Henry Dehling.

Reishus and Dehling will go to work early. Dehling likes to grapple and Reishus is strong from his back, and both fighters can put out a nice back heel kick to the head or straight kick to the jaw.

Promoter Bob Haag has picked some boxers to watch. Keep an eye on undefeated newcomer, Juneau’s Chandler Horne, who is in the Lightweight division. Horne has 3 wins 0 losses. Also check out middleweight Joey Chaires from Sitka, who has 2 wins, with one knockout.

Bouts begin at 9 p.m.
