Posted: May 11, 2012 - 12:11am

Nothing like a short game after a long day of travel. The Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears girl’s softball team demolished the Palmer Moose in Palmer on Thursday, winning 18-2 on a mercy rule ending in the third inning.

Senior Ashli Kikendall pitched a no-hitter and stuck out seven batters while walking just two. Sophomore Kayla Balovich produced four hits with three RBIs. Sophomore Andrea Gordon and Gracie Meiners garnished two hits apiece; freshman Savennah Schauwecker added three RBis and sophomore Randi Held two.

The Crimson Bears combined for 14 hits, 10 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

The buffet of scoring began early as Emma Good singled in the first, stole second base and scored on a passed ball. Meiners singled, stole second and advanced to third on Balovich’s double. Meiners scored on a passed ball and Held singled in Balovich. Held would steal home to score on a pickoff attempt on Schauwecker at second base.

In the second inning Gordon singled, Meiners singled and Balovich drilled a shot to score Gordon. Meiners scored when Held reached on an error. Schauwecker doubled, scoring Balovich, and Kikendall walked. Sophomore Breanna Chapman doubled to score Held and Schauwecker.

Leading 9-0 entering the third inning the Crimson Bears doubled that number as Meiners, Balovich and Held all reached base. Schauwecker doubled to score Meiners and Balovich. Kikendall tripled to clean up the runners and scored on a Rachel Doogan single. Chapman walked and Doogan scored on a passed ball. Good and Gordon reached base and Meiners reached on an error scoring Good and Gordon. Balovich singled again and Meiners advanced and scored.

The Crimson Bears play at North Pole on Friday and West Valley on Saturday.

The Thunder Mountain boys baseball team 10-runned the Ketchikan Kings at Sitka, winning 16-4 after six innings of play. Game statistics were not available by press time. The Falcons and the JDHS boy’s baseball team are in Sitka through Saturday.

Good Job! I always love it

Good Job! I always love it when Juneau kids lay a beating on some kids from some other place.

What do you want them to do?

Quit playing when they get ahead? Can't we just say congrats to the kids?
