The Juneau-Douglas and Thunder Mountain high school girls’ and boys’ soccer teams will host several Cancer Awareness games today at Thunder Mountain High School’s Falcons Field.
The Crimson Bears and Falcons programs will be providing cancer information and collecting donations to start a fund to assist youths in the Juneau School District that have recently been diagnosed with cancer. They will be selling purple awareness t-shirts for $10 and will be wearing purple attire during the matches in support of cancer awareness.
The varsity games will follow one junior varsity game. Game times are:
3:30 p.m., TMHS JV Boys vs. JDHS JV Boys at Thunder Mountain / 5:15 p.m. TMHS Varsity Boys vs. JDHS Varsity Boys at Thunder Mountain / 7:00 p.m. TMHS Varsity Girls vs. JDHS Varsity Girl at Thunder Mountain.
A Food fundraiser will be held during these games. El Sombrero will be bringing food to TMHS for $10 a plate. There will also be a bake sale held throughout the night. Teams want to kick off the food fundraiser by having the programs eat together (as on travel games) in the TMHS commons around 4:20 and are inviting parents to join them. Anyone wishing to help El Sombrero with food service can contact the JDHS and TMHS coaches or El Sombrero.
Admission to the games is free; donations at the gate will be accepted. Checks can be made out to the Juneau School District.
The soccer programs are organizing this event with the assistance of the local American Cancer Society and their May “Paint the Town Purple” campaign and the local Cancer Connection.
