Juneau Major All Stars season ends against Montana

Montana’s Boulder Arrowhead Little League eliminated the Juneau Gastineau Channel Little League Major All Stars from the Little League Northwest Regional Tournament on Wednesday morning by the score of 7-3.

Phone calls to coaches were not returned by press time.

Bryce Swofford led team Alaska, going 1-2 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and one run scored, while being walked once.

Donavin McCurley was 2-2 with 1 run scored; Zeb Storie was 0-2 with 1 run scored and 1 walk.

Montana jumped on Alaska in the first inning scoring four runs, added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Alaska’s scoring came in the third inning.

Over 250 fans attended Haughton Stadium in San Bernardino to view the game in temperatures that hit 113 degrees.

Montana’s Ben Tallman was the winning pitcher, throwing four-and-a-half innings striking out four, walking two and allowing three runs on three hits and two errors. Tallman threw 85 pitches with 58 strikes.

Alaska’s Erik Kelly took the loss, throwing 88 pitches, 52 for strikes. Kelly struck out seven and walked three while giving up five runs on four hits and three errors. Michael Cesar, Bobby Cox and Jacob Dale all came to the mound in relief.

Alaska finishes with a record of one win and three losses for fifth place. Wyoming finished in sixth place with an 0-4 record

Montana (2-2) moves on into the semifinals as the number three seed and will play number two seed Idaho (3-1) today at 1 p.m. on ESPN, while number one seed Washington (4-0) plays Oregon (2-2) in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The championship game is played on Saturday at noon on ESPN.
