JDHS JV football off and running

Juneau-Douglas High School sophomore quarterback Dorian Isaak (7) reaches across the goal line for a score against Thunder Mountain on Saturday. Isaak is the starting JV quarterback but filled in for injured varsity starter Phillip Fenumiai along with senior Trevor Pfaff. Isaak played a full game for the JV Saturday and two quarters of varsity action.

According to Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears junior varsity coach Angelo Katasse the JDHS JV are hitting the ground running, and in the air.

The Crimson Bears Junior Varsity kicked off the season with a 52-0 victory over the Thunder Mountain Falcons junior varsity. Coach Katasse gave much praise to his young line anchored by sophomore Nick Tragis.

“As the players move on to varsity it is my job to tailor the offense to highlight the players attributes,” Katasse said. “This season we will run the ball to set up the pass.”

Quarterback Dorian Isaak showcased why he was selected as the MVP of JV at Boise State Football Camp completing 10 of 14 passes for 228 yards and 4 Touchdowns. Adam Empson had a game high 108 yards receiving with a pair of touchdowns. The run game featured Daniel Stevens, Jestoni Rodriguez and Brady Mallinger; three running backs with unique styles of running. Simeesee Maake had 2 interceptions and four sacks leading a defense that had two touchdowns, and did not give up a score.

Isaak played four quarters of JV ball and then filled in for injured varsity QB Phillip Fenumiai and played the second half of the varsity game.

The Junior Varsity kicks off against Wasilla 5 p.m., Saturday, followed by the JDHS varsity playing Wasilla at 8 p.m.
