The Dimond Park Aquatic Center held its 1st Annual Race Back to School Triathlon last Saturday.
Roughly 39 participants from the First through Sixth grades took part in the triathlon. The race consisted of two different courses: the first was a 50-yard swim, one-mile bike and half-mile run; the second was a 100-yard swim, one-and-a-half-mile bike and three-quarter-mile run.
According to race officials, friends and family cheered on participants at each leg of the course and the enriching experience is planned to be repeated each year.
Volunteers included Cycle Alaska who helped to ensure the safety of participants by volunteered their services and performed bike safety checks; the Juneau Douglas High School Swim Team who volunteered their services to assist participants in staying on course; and the Dimond Park Field House for being gracious enough to open their doors so the children could run around their track.
