Falcons spikers fall at Mt. Edgecumbe, win at Sitka

The Thunder Mountain volleyball team met a tough opponent in Mt. Edgecumbe on Thursday night, falling to the Lady Braves 25-16 and 25-7, before regrouping to beat Sitka 25-21, 25-16 and 26-24.

“To be honest it was probably one of the worst matches I have ever seen our girls play,” Thunder Mountain coach Adrianna Northcutt said of the loss. “But then, if they would have played like they did against Sitka there would have been no issue.”

Against Sitka, Natalie Montez led with 7 aces, Makayla Pierce with 8 kills, and Kylie Ibias had 4 kills. Darbee Hickok was solid in passing and had 29 assists, and Sammy Haight had 3 Aces

Against Mt. Edgecumbe, Kendra Wittwer led with 4 Kills.

The Falcons will play both teams again today and Saturday.

“We were just flat,” Northcutt said. “We were not moving or talking, it was a low for us. But we came back against Sitka and had a lot of pride in that game. Sometimes it takes that crushing to realize that you have to make some changes to come out on top. The girls made it a point to play better. They came back and got into the right mind set and got the win.”
