Historical Sports: 1947 Elks Club City League Baseball Champs

The 1947 City League Champion Elks Club baseball team is shown standing in front of the bleachers at the old Fireman's Field, site of the current Federal Building. Standing left-to-right: Judge William A. Holzheimer, League President, Joe Werner, Joe Snow, Bud Cantillon, Earl Palmer, and Stuart Houston. Kneeling l-r: Joe Guy, Erv Hagerup, Bill Palmer, and Bill Logan. Judge Holzheimer would die the next year on Dec. 6, 1948. He first came to Juneau in 1915. The Fireman's Field was also the site of a yearly fair and Fourth Of July activities.
