2012 JDHS graduate Chrishtianna (Chrish) Newell helped the Oregon Tech (OIT) women’s soccer team in Klamath Falls, Oregon, make the playoffs in the NAIA Cascade Conference.
The Owls would eventually lose to Northwest University 2-1 ending their season. OIT was picked pre-season to finish 7th in their conference due to the fact that they are team of mostly freshmen and sophomores and have a head coach in his first season running a team.
Newell helped anchor the OIT Owls on defense and started in 12 of their 15 games playing a holding midfield position. The Owls finished 7-6-2 over-all and 5-2-2 in conference play earning them a fourth place finish in the conference and a playoff birth. With only three of their players graduating this year, the Owls are looking forward to next season. In the mean time Newell, on a partial soccer scholarship, will continue her studies in Health Sciences Veterinary Medicine and keep in shape as a member of the schools dance team.
