Historical Photo: City Cafe 1950

Posted: December 25, 2012 - 1:06am
Not only was the City Cafe, shown here in the 1950's, a place where locals could enjoy a small steak, rice and gravy, white bread and coffee, or an open faced roastbeef sandwich with gravy and a splash of coffee, or halibut cheeks and fries, or, well, just about any hearty meal for the working man (and woman); but this was where coaches and athletes gathered. Everyone had an opinion for the high school or city league coach on how to get more scoring and better defense. Old players would remember the good old days, current players would be given a good talking to or a congratulation, and young players would see and listen to the legends they had heard about or watched play. It was Friday and Saturday night after the game gatherings and Sunday church rolled into one. The local town cafes were a big part of American sports across the country.

City Cafe 1950???

Kind of difficult to have a picture of the City Cafe from the 1950's with a 1960 Chevrolet Parkwood stationwagon sitting in front of the cafe.

Owners!?

Was Sam Taguchi (sp!?) the owner back then!? As a longshoreman's daughter and going down to watch " Longshore Brownie" tie up the Alaska Steamship ships, we would pop into and have burgers and fries on occasion (which was a real treat back in the day, not an @ day thing like 'mcDonalds!)
