The Juneau Nordic Development Team will hold their first competition in the 2013 Juneau Nordic Cup Race Series on Sunday at Eaglecrest.
The Series Cup Opener start time is 12:30 p.m. and racers are to meet at the Eaglecrest A-frame near the Lower Nordic Loop. The event is a Skate race of 2,4 or 6 kilometers.
And the public does not have to just cheer, they can participate. All six cup series races hosted by the Nordic Devo skiers this season will be open to the community.
The Devos will meet at noon to warm up so other racers may want to catch an early glimpse of their competition.
Volunteers are also needed and they can be non-skiers. Those interested should contact Merry at 500-8112 or Jeannie at 463-3783.

Jan. 19, The Freestyle Frenzie, 12:30 p.m., at Eaglecrest A-frame Lower Nordic Loop, Freestyle race of 5 or 10 kilometers.
Feb. 2, The Campground Classic, 12:30 p.m., at Skater’s Cabin, Classic race of 3, 6 or 9 kilometers.
Feb. 17, Sweetheart Skate Race Relay, 12:30 p.m., at Eaglecrest A-frame Lower Nordic Loop, 2-person skate relay 4 legs 2 kilometers each.
March 16, The Classic Clash, 12:30 p.m., at Eaglecrest A-frame Lower Nordic Loop, Classic race of 6, 9 or 12 kilometers.
March 31, The Persuit, 12:30 p.m., at Eaglecrest A-frame Lower Nordic Loop, 1 leg skate - 1 leg classic. Each leg 2 kilometers. Solo or 2-person teams.
April 7, End of Season Relay, 12:30 p.m., at Skaters Cabin. 4 person relay, 2 legs skate - 2 legs classic. All legs 2 kilometers. Post race, end of season potluck so bring a dish to share.
All races are pay-as-you-can (does not include trail use fee for races at Eaglecrest). Skiers will receive a numbered bib upon entry of their first race. This bib, and number, will be used for the entire cup series. Points are awarded for each finisher according to gender and age group category.
