TMHS Falcons’ boys at West Anchorage High School for Alaska Airlines Classic Tournament. First round opponent is Dimond High School of Anchorage. Other first round matchups include West Anchorage vs. Northwood, Louisianna; Service vs. Hoover, Alabama; and Eagle River vs. Sagemont, Florida. All three Lower 48 teams had chances to play in tournaments closer to home, yet the lure of The Last Frontier proved too strong. Hoover is one of the top ranked teams in the state of Alabama. Last year the Buccaneers featured three starters standing 6-foot-7. This year they are smaller but faster. When it comes to college-ready talent, however, Sagemont of Florida might be in a class by itself. The Lions were state champions in 2011 and second in 2012. They return four starters this year and expect to contend for another title. Two players from Sagemont have already signed letters of intent, one with Arizona State University and another with the University of South Alabama, and other players are being recruited by NCAA Division I schools as well.
