A top matchup on the courts, some twists and turns on the slopes, and races against the time clock all highlight this weekend’s home sports activities. The Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears boy’s basketball team will host the Thunder Mountain Falcons in the first meeting of the season for the two squads that are the favorites to leave the Southeast Conference for the state tournament in late March. This will be the Crimson Bears’ Homecoming Series and the girls will host the Colony Knights on the same nights for some fan-friendly double header action.

The Juneau Ski Club is hosting a state qualifying alpine meet and the Nordic DEVO team is competing in their third race of the season at Skaters Cabin.

The Glacier Swim Club is holding a time trial at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center.

The Thunder Mountain Falcons girl’s basketball team will take their revigorated offense and defense on the road starting Thursday, the JDHS & TMHS wrestlers head to the state tournament starting Friday, and the JDHS hockey team heads to Fairbanks for the Mid-Alaska Conference hockey playoffs against rival Lathrop.

The Juneau School District is currently accepting public comment on a proposal to establish high school gymnastic teams at JDHS and TMHS. The proposal was submitted by the Southeast Alaska Gymnastics Academy. Public comment is collected by the Activities Office which forwards a recommendation to the high school principals and then to the Superintendent for a final recommendation. The proposal can be seen at www.juneauschools.org/announcement/2013/01/25district-accepting-public-c.... Comments may be submitted to JSD Activities Manager Sandi Wagner at sandi.wagner@juneauschools.org or 523-1580. Comments must be received by the close of business Friday, Feb. 8.

See all the schedules and times below and on the Juneau Empire Calendar. Activities can be posted by going online to events.juneauempire.com.
