The Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears girl’s basketball team fell to the Lathrop Lady Malemutes 47-37 in the opening round of the 2013 Lady Lynx Prep Tournament at Dimond High School on Wednesday.
JDHS coach Dee Boster stated, “We had one of those quarters again where we just didn’t show up.”
That was the second quarter, in which the Crimson Bears scored just two points after opening the game with a 10-6 first period lead.
Lathrop scored 17 points in the second quarter and led 23-12 at the break.
Juneau would outscore Lathrop 25-24 in the second half but that low second quarter doomed the Crimson Bears.
Gabi Fenumiai scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead JDHS. Emily Winters scored eight points, Kaitlin Fagerstrom six, Kayla Balovich and Amberli Fitka two each. Marissa Brakes had seven assists. JDHS hit just 3-15 at the charity strip, Lathrop went 1-5. Jasmine White led the Lady Malemutes with 22 points, and Ruthy Hebard scored 11 and pulled down 23 rebounds.
The loss puts JDHS in the consolation bracket with eight teams. Eight other teams are in the Gold bracket. JDHS plays today at 4:30.
