Hoonah ANB's Ray Howard puts up a one-hander against the Ketchikan Rockets' Herb Lawrence in the 1963 Gold Medal Tournament Class AA semi-finals. Hoonah won their opening game against Skinner's Gunners (Juneau) then lost to the Arctic Knights.
Hoonah next faced Ketchikan (an opening game loser to Wrangell) in the losers bracket and Ketchikan ended Hoonahs tourney. The Arctic Knights defeated Ketchikan for the championship of AA.
Hoonah, who won the 1962 AA title would start to build after this season and begin a run of championship game contests that would total 22 championships (AA - 62, 65, 66, 72; A - 72, 73, 74; B - 81, 84, 86, 90, 93, 97, 02, 08, 09; C - 95,99,'00, 02, 04, 05).
Hoonah will be in the B, C and Masters brackets again this tournament. Go HUNA!
