Klukwan ANB's Evans Willard drives for an under-hand lay-in as Petersburg's Dewey Skan is left behind. Kake was not in the 1963 tournament so Skan played for neighboring PSG in the A bracket. Klukwan beat Angoon (a 72-47 winner over Skagway) in their first game 77-55, then lost to McLean & Kristan of Juneau in the semifinals. Petersburg beat Juneau ANB 71-66, lost to Mclean 82-50, beat Angooon 83-70 and then beat Klukwan to get into the championship. The Scandinavian lads lost to McLean again. Angoon's Kay Faucette won Sportsmanship and Petersburg's Richard Hansen was MVP. In the AA bracket, Wrangell's Frank Young won Sportsmanship and Hoonah's Paul Rudolph was MVP. The Juneau Arctic Knights defeated the Ketchikan Rockets for the AA championship. Wrangell opened with a win over Sitka and Ketchikan before losing to the Knights and then Ketchikan in the losers bracket. Hoonah opened with a win over Skinners, lost to the Knights and then Ketchikan in the losers bracket. Sitka ANB beat Skinners in the losers bracket and then lost to Ketchikan.
Depending on a lot of composure and a little luck at the end of an overtime game, the Thunder Mountain High School boys basketball team squeaked out a second win against visiting Colony on Saturday. Read more
