Klukwan opened the 67th Annual Gold Medal Basketball Tournament with a 9-0 run against Angoon on Sunday, but Curtis Lane lead Angoon on a 28-4 run of their own and with the return of the Jamestown boys to the lineup it gave the lads from the mouth of Kootznahoo Inlet on Admiralty Island a commanding 43-23 first half lead.
“It feels good, it always feels good to come back and play in front of family,” Jordan Jamestown said. “It took me a while to warm up today. I just tried to get a sweat and get up and down the court a little bit.”
Angoon put on a sweat quickly as play resumed, going up by 30 midway through the second half and they were never threatened down the stretch.
Lane led Angoon with 20 points, Clayton Edwin 13, Jordan and Ozelle Jamestown 10 apiece, Bailey Johnson nine, William Silva seven, John Crossman five, Levi Johnson Sr. four, Steph Johnson three, and Jason Frank two.
Cody Hotch led Klukwan with 16 points, Jacob Hotch added 12, Benjamin Hotch 10, Jacob Narum seven, Kyle Barry six, Jordan Covonell three, Tony Delgado and Mike Ward two each.
Angoon was a solid 10-14 at the charity stripe and Klukwan 5-6.
Angoon advances to play Haines tonight at 9 p.m., it will be the first game of the tournament for Haines.
Klukwan will face Sitka today at 12:30 p.m. in a loser out game.
