Four two B bracket teams on Monday the games are over. They don’t have to go home but they can’t play in the 2013 tournament anymore.
The first casualty of the 2013 Gold Medal Basketball Tournament was awarded to Sitka, compliments of a 60-53 Klukwan “Hotch-attack” on Monday.
In a game of inside presence by Sitka and outside quickness by Klukwan, the faster team prevailed.
Klukwan’s Cody Hotch buried five triples on his way to a game high 28 points, including 12 points in the first half for a 35-16 advantage at the break. Tony Tompkins added 10 of his 12-team points in the first half as well, and provided the board strength to challenge Sitka’s 6-foot-8 Steve Walker.
Jacob Hotch had two triples on the night and 12 points. Mike Ward, Ben Hotch, Jordon Covonell and Jacob Narum each scored two points.
Cody Hotch scored on four of Klukwan’s first six possessions in the second half.
Sitka’s Rich Didrickson scored 16 of his team-high 18 points in the second half as Sitka outscored Klukwan 37-25 in the last 20-minutes of play but it was too much too late.
Walker added nine points for Sitka, Chadem Wolfe eight, Hunter Lee six, Tom Gamble five, Steve Edenshaw and Andy Lee two apiece.
Klukwan hit 3-9 at the free throw line, Sitka 7-13.
Klukwan will play Wrangell today in an elimination game at 12:30 p.m.
Yakutat sends Hoonah B team home 70-58
In late game action Yakutat eliminated Hoonah from the B bracket tournament with a 70-58 score on Monday night.
Yakutat got 16 points from Robin Brantley, Martin Sensmeier and Jake Taylor added 13, Jay Sin 12, Sam Ferguson eight, Robert Sensmeier seven, and David Brown one.
Hoonah was led by DJ Lindstrom’s 16, Michael Croasmun added 10, Jaylin Prince nine, Cameron Smith Seven, Devin Moritz and Roony Hasselquist four apiece, Kristian Geise and James Wilson three, Adam Gretsinger two.
Yakutat moves on to play Hydaburg, an 88-84 loser to Angoon late Monday. Box sccore not available by press time.
