Defending Masters Champions Kake will have to come up through the losers bracket after Juneau-Alliance held on to an overtime victory 56-54 on Tuesday evening in the 67th Annual Gold Medal Basketball Tournament.
Kake led 25-20 at the half as Mike Martin hit from the perimeter and Mike Knudson worked the insides.
Juneau-Alliance came back to take a 12-point lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game and put the contest into overtime at 48-48.
Knudson tried to keep Kake in the extra play with a basket and three free throws but Juneau-Alliance got baskets from Sean Joslyn, Doug Drazkowski and Jack Vogt to take a two points lead.
Two last second shots inside by Kake did not go down.
Ed Mercer led Juneau Alliance with 16 points, Vogt 15 (13 in the second half), Joslyn 12, Drazkowski seven and Leon Aceveda six. The team hi just 4-12 at the charity stripe while Kake went 9-13.
Knudson led Kake with 11 points, Wayne Friday and Willis Cavanaugh 10 apiece, Martin and Paul Rostad eight each, Kip Howard five, and Lonnie Anderson two.
Juneau-Alliance will play Klukwan at 9 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal game. Kake plays today against C. B. Green in an elimination game at 12:30 p.m.
