Hydaburg eliminates Yakutat from C bracket

A scoring duel between Hydaburg’s Joe Young (26 points) and TJ Young (23 points) and Yak tat’s Jimmy Jensen (27 points) and Damien Long (21 points) would come down to who had the deeper supporting cast.


Hydaburg’s bench proved to be the difference in their 77-61 elimination game win over Yakutat. Harold Dilts hit four of his five triples in the first half to keep Hydaburg in the game until TJ Young came to life in the second half.

Leading 32-30 at the break Hydaburg’s Young boys, Dilts and Tony Peele connected on their first shots to spark control of the game.

Leading by just eight at the 4:30 mark, Hydaburg’s Sid Edenshaw scored with a Yakutat player hanging on for dear life to get a ten-point margin that they never gave up.

Neither team could hit from the charity stripe, with Hydaburg going 9-20 and Yakutat just 2-15.

Dilts added 15 points for Hydaburg, Sid Edenshaw six and 10 rebounds, Peele five, and Derek Edenshaw two.

Yakutat’s Ralph Johnson added six points, Michael Jensen three, Jerry Ridlington and Steve Fields two apiece.

Hydaburg will play an elimination game tonight at 7 p.m. against Klukwan, a 92-68 loser to Hoonah in Thursday night’s C semifinal game.
