Juneau Jumpers qualify for nationals

The Juneau Jumpers competed at the USA Jump Rope Regional competition in Sitka recently and qualified 12 team members for the National competition in California in June. The Juneau Jumpers were among 80 jump rope competitors, including North Pole and the Sitka Skippers, at the USA Jump Rope Regional competition in Sitka recently, competing to qualify for the national tournament in Long Beach, California on June 21-23.

Qualification requires a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in the regional event. There are 11 events (12 for older jumpers) involving either speed or freestyle. Events can be single or involve multiple jumpers (such as double dutch freestyle).

Of the 20 Juneau Jumpers that attended, 12 qualified in all events they entered, and will be traveling to compete in Long Beach. Those Juneau Jumpers are Sophie Harvey, Katrina Taton, Asianna Mazon, Abby Watts, Mikayla May, Kayla Simpson, Kelley Olson, Connor Ulmer, Martina Worden, Ron, Hansen, Dunya Hermann, and Tori Ross. Other participants included Camille Varner, Amanda Vanslyke, Kate LaRue, Makayla Kusek, Catherine Marks, Amy Schoonover, Claire Varner, and Ally Ireland-Haight.

The Juneau Jumpers will be holding an end of season exhibition on Saturday May 4 at 7 p.m. in the Glacier Valley Elementary School gymnasium. The show will include a dessert auction fundraiser to assist the team with travel expenses to the national competition.

Last-second win over Lathrop caps JDHS boys road trip
