The Thunder Mountain High School boy’s soccer team put up one of the best defensive efforts of the season against Juneau-Douglas on Thursday night at TMHS Field.
On a night honoring their seniors, the Falcons’ Jasper Soriano had a game that was praised by opposing coaches as he pulled at least five sure goals out of the danger zone.
The Crimson Bears would clinch a state berth with the 3-0 win but the game could have changed with one goal as the Falcons only trailed 1-0 starting the second half.
Ryan Hoover gave the Crimson Bears the one score advantage at the six minute mark of the first half on an assist by Jackson Lehnhart.
Lehnhart would score two goals in the second half, both on assists by Stuart Thurston, and has closed to within one goal of the school record.
JDHS coach Gary Lehnhart credited the defense of Ben Scudder, Ethan Seid, Marc Heifetz and Corbin Mitchell for keeping the Crimson Bears in the game.
The JDHS boys and girls will honor their senior soccer players on Saturday night. See the local sports schedule on page B3 for times.
