The Juneau Soccer Club ‘99 Girls finished second at a recent tournament in San Diego, losing to San Diego’s Enchinitas Express by the score of 2-1. The team included goalie Hailley Jones, Anna Rivest, Haleigh DiCarlo, Leila Lambardo Robinson, Elena Bryson, Kaylah Duncan, Star Barger, Marlena Romanoff, Georgia Robinson, Erika Holst, Sydney Holst, Emma Kaelke, Ally Lindley, Zoey Kriegmont, Meghan Penrose, Kalianna Lewis, and coaches John Newell and Erik Holst. According to notes from Newell the defense played very well only allowing two goals during the tournament. Goalie Jones made some excellent saves and all the defenders stopped numerous shots. Kriegmont cleared a ball off the line during a corner kick that was a sure goal in the first game and preserved a 0-0 tie. Jones stopped a breakaway by coming off her line and smothering the ball and the player at the top of the goalie box. The Encinitas parents recognized that the Juneau team was out of their element and brought them sun shade cover and seats to sit on during the championship game. During one win E. Holst, Lindley, Kaelke, Rivest and Lambardo-Robinson all scored.
