GCLL Majors ready for District diamond play

The Gastineau Channel Little League Majors Division All-Star baseball team begins District Tournament play in Wrangell on Sunday.

The Majors will face teams from Wrangell (July 14), Prince Of Wales (July 15), Sitka (July 16), Petersburg (July 17), and Ketchikan (July 18). The top four teams advance to a single elimination finals on July 20-21.

The State Tournament is also in Wrangell and runs from July 24-29.

The winner of State advances to the Northwest Regional in San Bernardino, California August 2-10 and that winner advances to the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, August 15-25.

The GCLL Majors swept the District Tournament last season at home, beating Prince of Wales 23-0, Sitka 15-0, Ketchikan 19-4, Haines 23-4 and then Ketchikan in the title game 15-0. Juneau then won state, sweeping Dimond-West Little League in three games (15-0, 3-1, 4-1). Alaska Juneau did not advance out of the round robin portion of the Northwest Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, California, beating Wyoming 12-0, but losing to Idaho 3-1, Oregon 4-0, and Montana 7-3.
